A writer, editor, and educator with over 20 years of experience in instructional design and curriculum development for software and print, Marjorie Frank has worked in the areas of science, English language arts, social studies, and math. She is a co-author of SCIENCE DIMENSIONS, SCIENCE FUSION, and INTO SCIENCE (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), all national elementary science programs.
As an independent contractor, Marjorie has authored and designed a generation of instructional materials in all subject areas, including authoring science and social studies issues of KIDS DISCOVER, an award-wining children’s magazine; writing game-based digital assessments in reading, language arts, and math; and serving as instructional designer and co-author of pioneering school-to-work software for Classroom, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving reading and math skills for middle and high school learners.
She has also authored high-interest/low readability supplements for middle school and high school students. In addition, she has created offline and online activities in math, science, and social studies for a Pre-kindergarten blended learning program produced by K12. Marjorie and her team have also produced reading teacher’s guides for a K-5 science program.
In the classroom, Marjorie has taught students from pre-school to adults, including literacy and adult basic education to native Spanish speakers, and Spanish to pre-K children and high school students. In addition, she has served on the adjunct faculty of Hunter, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Colleges, teaching courses in literacy, writing, and science education.
One of Marjorie’s favorite projects was writing words and music for 18 songs on science topics. The album she produced for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt was an American Library Association nominee for Notable Recording.
Marjorie received a BS degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin and an MS degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University; she was a Special Graduate Student in Theoretical Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the national Spanish honor society Sigma Delta Pi.
